Dream the Dream with the First Tracks Team in Courchevel

It took me over twenty years to find the best overall ski area in the world. You may have found better, but for a comprehensive mixture of all the standards of piste bashing from baby to expert, super steep back country to fluffy off piste angel poop, then there is nothing to beat the Three Valleys (recently promoted to Four Valleys but the name hasn't caught on yet).

Forget most of the statistics - these few are surely good enough to impress you. There are nearly 400 miles of piste - that's right - 400 miles. There are 300 lifts carrying up to 250,000 punters an hour - that's right too - an hour! And yet in the busy high season you can find pistes all to yourself.

I've just looked at the map and from the northerly Courchevel boundary to Orelle at the southerly edge near the Italian border, and it's 24 miles as the crow flies. You can ski this vast area in a day if you get up early, and you can be back back for tea if you don't dawdle and miss the last lift into the last valley home.

With a vertical drop of reliable snow from 11500ft down to 4500ft there is a massive amount of terrain to ski and if you are there for the first time and want to spread your wings the moment you put your skis on, then you'll need the best to show you around.

Based in Courchevel, the chic resort of the Three Valleys, First Tracks Ski Coaching is a team of professional teachers specialising in private personal tuition and the coaching of very small groups.

The team comprises several ex-members of national ski teams as well as ski, snowboard and telemark experts. There are even one or two mountain guides, who will take you beyond your limits, helping you to build confidence and overcome your fears.

Their slogan says it all: 'Dream it, believe it, achieve it, but most of all...enjoy it! First Tracks - more than just a ski school!'
