27 January 2009 - Anyone for a Ski Holiday?

Times are tough - the fact I can spend some minutes writing this just shows that I'm not responding to chalet holiday enquiries. I've already done that today - there were only six this morning. There should have been twenty or thirty snow crazed punters trampling each other in the rush to buy the latest ski deal. About two weeks ago I had thirty telephone calls and wrote fifty two emails in one day, and now ... next to zilch.

This year has been better than last though. I'd put that down to Ski Jungle appearing more on Google. When you type in arcane keywords like 'discount skiing cards', and more importantly because there's so much snow, there are many more visitors than last year.

What's really strange is that people do things collectively. For three days last week I answered nothing but short break enquiries, and then a change of direction at the end of the week when everyone wanted half term accommodation (they must be joking!).

For the past few days things have gone very quiet and I know there are bad times to come. Ski Holidays are always discarded in favour of Summer Holidays, and when we can't afford to go on Summer Holidays, then we'll be spending a week end on the North Wales coast. Now there's an idea ...

On Saturday I will be guiding a party of anyone interested on a first descent of the Dog Leg Couloir on Y Garn. The package includes guiding and a complimentary plate of egg and chips in Pete's Cafe Llanberis for anyone who gets to the bottom with their skis still on. The tour will cost £10, payable in advance. Meet in the car park by the lake 1200 hours.
