2 February 2009 - The Right
Kind of Snow
|
There's something about waking up to snow in England.
There was just an inch or so this morning before the main dump comes
tonight 'oop 'ere in't North, but the radio at breakfast time was buzzing
with the excitement of closed airports, trains cancelled and don't go out
unless you really have to warnings.
Boris Johnson was loving the adversity, fending off journalists, who were
wondering if he shouldn't have done something about preventing the chaos in
London. He replied that it wasn't the wrong kind of snow this time, just
that there was too much of it - thirty centimetres to be reckoned with.
'Oop 'ere in't North there has not been much but it's starting to snow
again as darkness falls. My wife, Kate, has to get to Heathrow in't morning to
catch a plane to Goa. No doubt she will be calling in two days time* from
Heathrow asking me to come and pick her up.
*She did ring - from Oxford Services to say she had broken down - she got
to Heathrow in the end...
