Being under an hour from Geneva and only 30 minutes from the TGV train at
Cluses, makes Morzine one of the easiest French ski resorts to reach in
the Alps. Morzine is part of the Portes du Soleil ski domain in Haute
Savoie, the main areas being les Gets and
Avoriaz, together with the smaller
resorts of
Chatel and
St Jean d'Aulps, with Champery
across the border in Switzerland.
Morzine is an old market town with a family atmosphere and is surrounded
by attractive forests and old style chalets. It is slightly spread out
but there is a good bus service. Après ski is good; there are a number of
good restaurants and plenty of busy bars. It is very popular with the
British.
The skiing is excellent for beginners and intermediates and the snow
record good. Advanced skiers can find more challenging slopes in les Gets
and there is always the famous Wall across the border going down to
Champery. The snowboarding in Avoriaz is exceptional.
Morzine is certainly well placed for some of the best and easily
accessible all round skiing in the Alps.
