Situated in the Piemonte Region of Italy Sauze d’Oulx is a mixture of old and new. The centre of town is full of charming narrow streets, full of little boutiques, selling everything from chic leather goods to fresh pasta. Pizzerias and trattorias abound serving delicious local food and there are plenty of bars and discos, so nightlife, particularly at the weekend is lively.

Situated at 1560 meters the ski area is ideally suited to intermediates, who can easily travel round the huge Milky Way circuit. Sauze d’ Oulx is one of the hosts for the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Much of the skiing is above the tree line ensuring reliable snow and its north-facing slopes, high altitudes, and snowmaking equipment ensure reliable conditions all season.

Sauze also offers pretty wooded trails so skiing is good in most weather conditions. Beginners can start on the nursery slopes in the village or go up the mountain to Sportinia, where a number of bars and cafes are strategically positioned for those who need a quick reviver or even some Dutch courage.

Advanced skiers can take advantage of the numerous off piste opportunities, particularly the 1300 m descent from Fraiteve or Moncrons to the little villages on the valley floor. Snowboarders can enjoy Sauze d'Oulx’s easy-going attitude and and snow-sure slopes.

Cross-country runs in Sauze are unlimited with Clavier and Sauze linked to form a beautiful trail more than 15 kilometers (7 miles), making a total of 50 kilometers (30 miles) throughout the Milky Way region.

For those interested in the nightlife there is no shortage of apres ski, with the bars and restaurants catering for all tastes, from lager to cocktails and fast food to smart international restaurants. Sauze’s got it!
