Chalet du Rassel
Le Chalet du Rassel is a former brewery built in the 1880s in the typical
Savoyard style. Beer was brewed to be exported across the border to Italy
and carried by mules who used sleds during the winter snows.
It has been operated as a chalet since 1999 when it was converted by
the former owner into luxury ski accommodation.
Despite its proximity to these internationally renowned ski resorts this
is ‘real France’ with a rural atmosphere not a factory style
re-incarnation of what mountain life should be.
There are quaint alpine villages with Baroque churches dating back
hundreds of years, farmers’ barns filled with hay and cattle, and locally
run bars and restaurants filled with local people.
From Chalet du Rassel there are stunning views of the mountains and ski
areas we ski. The chalet is set in ten acres of land on a quiet road just
a few hundred metres from the main road. The setting makes for a very
relaxing break.
The chalet features ten comfortable double/twin rooms each with an
en-suite bathroom sleeping 20 guests, a spacious living and dining
area with an open log fire.
Our aim is to provide you with the best holiday experience ever and to
show you some of what we believe is the ultimate in alpine culture. Over
the forthcoming years we intend to raise the standard of the chalet
concept and bring you great comfort, skiing food, and wine.
The Food
We put particular emphasis on gourmet food at Le Chalet du Rassel.
Our professional Chef (who returns this year) prepares a continental
and cooked breakfast each morning before we head out skiing. Upon our
return to the chalet in the evening we warm up in front of the fire with
tea, biscuits and cakes. Prior to dinner we often serve canapés with a
glass of champagne whilst discussing the days adventures.
The evening meal consists of four delicious courses with unlimited red
and white wine. We generally select our wines from the nearby Rhone
Valley, travelling down in the autumn to sample suitable styles and
vintages to compliment the food we serve during the winter.
Menus are balanced and varied using the finest local and imported
produce. We can take care of all dietary requirements and aim to satisfy
all tastes. We always have a fantastic cheese board featuring the best
local cheeses, often made by farmers whose cattle graze on the land
surrounding the chalet.
The staff have one night off per week, so we use this as an opportunity
to sample the local restaurants.
These include the fabulous Chez Merie, a rustic converted farmhouse in
nearby le Miroir which serves impressive mountain cuisine often cooked
over an open fire.
Or you can try le Monal, the hub of the local social scene which has a
choice of three restaurants and a bar. |
