A spectacular trip skiing and walking the glaciers running down from the back of
the Jungfrau massif. Five of us caught the milk train from Interlaken at 0530,
up to Keine Scheidegg, and then through the Eiger to the Top of Europe.
The drama began early as Bruce Thompson slipped in ski boots at the Gallery
windows in the tunnel and dislocated his kneecap. We eventually got him back on
the train and he was helicoptered back to Interlaken from the Top of Europe.
Four of us and the guide, Werner Hofer, skied the first three miles down the
Jungfrau Firn before turning south on to the Grosser Aletch Gletscher and
skinning up to the top of the Lang Gletscher, where we could see Mont Blanc. It
was a choppy six mile ski down to Blatten and a very welcome beer, before the
bus and train ride back to Interlaken.
What a day - one of the best!
