St Gervais les Bains is the Haute Savoie’s best kept secret and an ideal base for touring the Mont Blanc ski area.
The old spa town lies a few miles west of Chamonix at the foot of Mont Blanc. There have been baths and a settlement there since Roman times and it doubled as a ski resort at the turn of the last century. Linked to the west with Megeve, visitors can experience the vast amount of skiing available in the Mont Blanc area.
There are plenty of bars and good restaurants and all the facilities of a bustling mountain town.
Although the town itself is low and the immediate skiing limited, there is good lift access to the slopes above Megeve, and the busses taking skiers to all the areas up the valley such as les Houches, les Contamines, Chamonix and Argentiere, are frequent and efficient.
