Together with Risoul, the ski resort of Vars makes up the domain de la Foret Blanche in the Hautes Alpes department of the southern Alps. At 1850 metres it has a good snow record and lots of sunshine and with Risoul shares 170 kilometres of pisted terrain.
It is the most southerly of all the listed French ski resorts. The skiing for beginners and intermediates is excellent and there is enough for advanced skiers with some good off piste.
Vars is a small modern village patronised mostly by the French. This makes it a lot cheaper than some of the more famous big name ski resorts, yet it has all the facilities you would expect elsewhere and the sunshine as well!
